sarahfae: (dear diary)

I am SO excited about the food that happened in my kitchen this weekend!!
I've got what seems like a MILLION (okay - maybe not that many) new amazing recipes, most of which I hope to share this week. Most of them geared towards the upcoming holidays. Yay for Holiday food that doesn't make you feel like crap after wards. And yay for finding an alternative to mashed potatoes that is to DIE for!!

One theme I've been trying to focus on where recipe creation is concerned is: QUICK & EASY
Recipes that don't call for a dehydrator, and if a recipe calls for the use of a food processor giving an alternative to that. Such as a blender, cheese grater, or just a good knife.
My objective is to have at least two "Quick and Easy" recipes featured on the website each week.
Stay tuned...lots of yummy food to come.

In weather news...
There's a big storm moving towards our coastline, supposedly going to hit us tonight. I'm looking forward to this. I've been in the mood for rainy weather. I always seem to be more productive (inside) when it rains.

What a  friggin' beautiful day!!

I slept in WAY late, and when I woke up D was already outside mowing the lawn. So I joined him and we did yard work together for about three hours. I'm so ready to plant flowers, and herbs, and maybe some squash too.

Around eight o'clock tonight we fired up the grill, and it was still warm enough to not need at jacket or shoes. Kurtis and Brillo came over, and at the moment the boys are playing "Buzz", while Lucy sleeps next to me. le-sigh.

I'm so glad that the days are longer. It finally feels like the end of winter.

It's super chilly and stormy outside - and I'm fittingly getting a head-cold...after avoiding it for way too long. Blech.
Oh, I forgot to mention that it snowed over the weekend. Sunday D and I decided to stay in and be couch potatoes, but peering out of our living room window I couldn't help notice how the rain looked more like flakes...
"I think it's snowing outside Damieon!"
We averted to little kids and went for a drive - enjoying the weather, and ending up at our friends house, cuddled up in front of their wood stove and enjoying a nice bowl of soup with good company.

One of the gifts D bought me for Christmas was Alicia Keys new album "As I Am"...which I didn't like as much as I anticipated (aside from her two hit singles), but over the last few days I've been playing it in my car's  stereo...
and I am IN LOVE with the stucture of "I Need You". If you appriciate a well produced song, the way this woman formats the verse, chorus, refrain...it's just incredible, and nothing short of inspiring. While I can't say much for the complexity of her lyrics, it's refreshing to hear music that is poppy, and still very rich.
Ah, who am I kidding - Alicia is hot.

Time for beddy-bye...

Love,
Sarahfae

Holy cow! I've been getting up every morning at 5am to work out with Megan at 5:30. It's been a little rough, but all in all I love it. Having a gym partner is amazing motivation, we just have to be careful that we're not pushing ourselves too hard - the other day I almost passed out after getting off of the stationary bike.
*Mental note: remember to eat something like a banana or nuts before you work out.*

In weather news:
It's still storming outside. While I was at the gym this morning the lights flickered a few times. Everyone keeps saying the worst is yet to come...and I say bring it on mother nature! I want a good storm - no more of this sissy stuff!

Evangelical Christians are some of the most ignorant and angry people on this planet. Am I the only person who thinks that "Huckabee" is a very eerie and yet fitting last name for a Republican candidate?  You guys have seen the movie "I heart Huckabee's", right? Just think about it for a minute.

That's enough political banter.

That's what I just saw on the news.  Wow.
It's sort of eerily calm and overcast outside right now. I remember my Uncle saying once, when I was about twelve years old: "There's a storm coming, I can smell the atmosphere."
To this day I still don't know what the atmosphere "smells" like, all I can smell right now is the split pea chowder I made for dinner...
Maybe the atmosphere smells like comfort food.

If you haven't already heard of The Flight of the Conchords, and you need a really good healthy laugh...lookie:

The first big storm of 2008 is brewing outside. I'm excited! Rumor has it that wind gusts could reach eighty miles per hour.
I hope the power goes out so I can light a bunch of candles.

Yesterday I made a quick trip down to Santa Rosa for my "exit interview". On the way home I stopped in the small town of Myers Flat (is it really a town, or just a flat?), and picked up a couple bottles of wine  - red for my Dad and white for me. I think I may have to crack open my bottle tonight if the storm gets nasty. Maybe I'll cook up something yummy to go with it...any ideas [profile] smoochie?

Matthew heads back to Chicago this morning - I've got to wake Rae up soon (she stayed the night) so we can be at the airport in time to hug him goodbye. I'm going to miss my not-so-little-anymore brother. He's growing into such an amazing man, and I'm so proud of him.

A storm has been slowly rolling in today. Cold gusts if wind laced with icy raindrops.
I always have a hard time sleeping when it's windy outside - feeling as though I might miss something if I close my eyes.
My most fond childhood memories are of when my family lived in Salyer, way out in the sticks. Christmas time was always snowy, and the power would blow out, often for days on end.
Of course this never fazed my brothers and I...while my Mom would have us carry pales of snow to the bathroom, dumping them into bathtub so we could eventually flush the toilet with snow water.
My Dad would play the banjo by the sliding glass door, snowscape behind him, blankets on the living room floor, dancing to his mountain-man music.
I loved winter back then. I still love it now. Mostly I love that I'm now old enough to create my own memories, recycled from ones past.
I'm not too old to want to feel like a kid again.
I don't think I'll ever be.
