Labor Day morning, I woke up to the birds chirping outside of my bedroom window, and snuggly puppies trying to wiggle their way underneath the covers.
I quickly made my breakfast "treats" and headed out to the patio to enjoy the morning smells and sounds...

Yes, the spelling for the following recipes are silly - but I promise you that these simple treats deserve to be taken seriously (with a smile of course). Even my uber picky non-vegan husband tried the desert and said: 'S good Honey - I'm impressed.
Yay for hubby-likes-it-points!

I have to start this post out by sharing what I've been using for a liquid sweetener as of late - in my effort to banish Agave from my kitchen.
I call it Golden-Date Sweetener - and it's SUPER easy.

(Not the actual raisins that I used)

Golden Date (or G.D.) Sweetener

1 C Golden Raisins
7 Medjool Dates (pits removed)
Fully cover Raisins/Dates in warm water. Soak for about 15 minutes.
Place Raisins and Dates in food processor or blender with 3/4 Cup of the soaking water. Blend for about 5 minutes, Store in Refrigerator.

Side note: One of the reasons why I chose to use Golden Raisins is because of their tart, almost honey-like flavor. Paired with Dates they create a very mellow slightly tart and fragrant flavor.
EDIT: The Golden Raisins I use are actually slightly green in coloring, and have not been blanched or flame dried.

Now on to the more important subject...
I now give you MY raw/vegan take on a desert classic:

I've had four Granny Apples in my hanging kitchen basket for some time, and I knew I needed to do something with them before they went bad...
So I decided dehydrating them would be the best idea, mainly because I wouldn't have to worry about eating them up right away. But then I thought a little bit longer about it...why not turn them into fancy dehydrated apple cookies? So that's what I did...
But you totally don't have to dehydrate them if you don't want to --- I only did for a longer shelf life.

I guess they're not really like a cookie, but in my opinion the flavor rivals any cookie I've ever had.
And they're super simple too!

I have to give HUGE props to The Sage Avocado for this one.
Her recent post (in addition to our comments/conversation) on Carrot Cake made me almost instantly RUN to my kitchen because I wanted to try my hand at making my own version of raw Carrot Cake.

I have never considered myself to be anywhere close to a "baker", and have never been successful in the kitchen when it comes to baking sweets. Even boxed cakes have turned out horrible when in my hands.
But in spite of my fears I took on the idea of a raw Carrot Cake, and pulled out all the stops.

The results? Well, just wow...

Yeah. If you think it looks good, I swear to you it tastes even better! My Mom didn't believe me when I told her it was raw. Eeeeee! I just can't seem to stop being all giddy about this one!!

This way for more yummmy pics and the story... )

Sorry for my tardiness on this post!
I went home from work yesterday with horrible allergies, layed down on the couch with Lucy, and fell asleep for a very long nap. Three cheers for allergy season!!

Anywho...*drum roll*...

How about some rawfood pictures AND recipes from this weekend?

Happy Belated Mom's day to all of you who don that title.
D's been out of town since last Friday so I had the Sis over and we rocked it "girlie weekend" style. There is something truly medicinal about laughing hysterically at yourself. We always managed to do this non-stop when we're together.

Saturday evening we watched three Buster Keaton flicks, and in between movies and snacks we managed to blow up roughly forty balloons to decorate my house with...for Mothers Day of course! What good is a holiday if you can't have balloons?? Needless to say the Mom was happy to see them strung throughout the house (and I'm leaving them up for when D comes home tomorrow --- a perfect way to welcome him back!!).
We had a ton of yummy snacks, played with the cheap party favors I picked up from my neighborhood drug store, and went around in a circle sharing stories that related to Mom and our childhood (one of my favorite things to do during family gatherings).

I came up with a couple very simple and YUMMY rawfood party snacks/treats that I'll share with ya'll under the cut...
But for now I'm gonna  tease you with some pics...

Weekend food, Mother's Day treats, and Tonight's dinner... )
As always - thanks for coming by!

So I've learned a few simple, yet very important things over the last couple of weeks:

1. Don't jump to conclusions without doing thourough detective work, and discussing it with your significant other (If you don't have one take a moment to have some one-on-one dialog with yourself - or your best most trusted friend).

2. If you need something from your partner, something that's not hard to give, something that is actually quite easy to give (i.e.: a hug, a kiss, a sweet word, or even help with the kitty litter boxes), then ASK for it. Most likely they'll be so happy that you asked - happy to know that they're "needed".

3. Alone time. You need it. You need it to center yourself, and to be an all around better wife, friend, daughter, sister, mama to your furry babies, and to be a strong complete individual.

4. Don't be so hard on yourself. Relax. Have a glass of champagne with some frozen watermelon in it...it's yummy, and a nice way to wind down from a sucky Monday.

5. If you're bored or depressed, you're stagnant. Change or add something into your daily routine - something substantial. It's a healthy move, and doesn't cost a lot of moolah. ---I've started making a list of new fun and/or adventurous things D and I can do to encourage dialog and stimulate our minds at the end of our busy work days.

6. You are a control freak, and a neat freak.
Stop it!
Surrender to your messy kitchen and dirty floor. Go outside and take a deep breath. There are more important (and positive) things to waste your energy on. Turn up your "Best of Aretha" CD and dance like a madwoman around your house, or start picking all of those overly ripened blackberries in your backyard. Do it! Pick them! And make something yummy!

Okay. Enough of that wisdom garble...How about some food teasers?

xoxo~
