Labor Day morning, I woke up to the birds chirping outside of my bedroom window, and snuggly puppies trying to wiggle their way underneath the covers.
I quickly made my breakfast "treats" and headed out to the patio to enjoy the morning smells and sounds...

Strawberries with "Milk" Chocolate Dip, and a Blue-Green Smoothie

"Milk" Chocolate Dip

1/2 C raw Cashews
3 tsp Carob Powder
2 tsp Vanilla
6 tsp G.D. Sweetener (or 4 Medjool dates soaked)
Dash of sea salt
1/4 C water (add it very slowly, in small portions, as you might not want to use it all)

Process until smooth. Pair with your favorite fruit, or enjoy it plain. Eat with someone (or on someone *giggle*) you love!

--- --- ---

Green-Blue Smoothie:

(rough recipe)
A Huge handful of Spinach
Frozen Blueberries
One big banana
Tbsp Flaxseed meal
Squeeze of Lemon
G.D. Sweetener, or Medjool dates
Dash of Cinnamon

Hi Sarafae

I notice you use cashews a lot, and was wondering if you're aware they're a food commonly labeled raw, but they're not? I use the Eureka Natural Foods cashews anyway cuz I'm not that strict & don't use them often.
Only bringing it up b/c you have been concerned about that lately. I've read in a few places that the majority of "raw" cashews are not raw from the process used to separate it from the shell.

Some truely raw options:

Here is one person who claims they are okay, but I'd like to see more than one person's experiment....

yah, i was totally aware of this. however i have to say that i'm in agreement with the last link in your comment (i've read something very similar before - just wish i could remember where).
i too buy at ENF, and i've checked on their source for nuts/cashews, feeling confidant with the claim that their cashews are a raw living food.
either way i'm not torn up about it.

mmm. Sounds good. I've been wanting a good raw "nutella". oh my goodness. that's the best with strawberries.

oh - i was just thinking that you could probably do this with almonds and/or pecans for a deeper nuttier flavor. mmm. i may have to try that next.

I'm going to try that blue-green smoothie. Almost 100% of my smoothies contain banana & blueberries, anyway!

Do you follow any rules of "food combining?" When I took a raw foods class last winter, the instructor was talking about how certain fruits, specifically citrus, won't blend well with spinach. Something about how the foods break down together?
