No idea if this is true but supposedly pork is super popular there and everyone ate the boars. Tourism turned the boars into big $$$ so the natives sold the boars to the hotels and Spam got more popular. My parents live there and one of their neighbors told me that. Spam and gravy. It's everywhere.
