Raw Hummus version 2.0 - a do-over

There's nothing like going over your old recipes and re-doing them, only to have them turn out better in taste and health too.
I'll be doing a lot of this over the coming weeks and months, in an effort to eliminate two ingredients that have seemed to dominate my kitchen: Braggs Liquid Aminos, and Agave Nectar.

Here's a recent re-dux, involving my favorite lunchtime (or anytime) snack: "No-Chickpea" Hummus - The redux? No Walnuts, no Agave, no Braggs Liquid Aminos, and additional spices...and the change, to me, is HUGE in a good way.

And Just because it's pretty:
A super simple plate: Tomatoes topped with Zucchini Monsterella Cheeze and sprinkled with Sunflower Parm

"No Chickpea" Hummus version 2.0

1 & 1/2 C Cashews
1/2 C Sunflower seeds

2 tbsp raw Tahini
2-3 tbsp Apple Cidar Vinegar
2 tsp Garlic (to taste)
1 tbsp Lemon
Sea Salt (to taste)
1-3  tbsp Cumin (maybe more)
1 tbsp ground Fenugreek (optional - but it makes it sooooo good!)
2-3 tbsp Evoo (can sub with water)
1 tbsp dried or fresh Chives
1 tsp Onion Powder
2 tsp dried green Bell pepper (can sub with a couple dashes of Paprika)

1/2 (maybe a little more) C Water

Process all ingredients until smooth.

Is it not possible just to soak dried chickpeas and make hummus? Or does that not count as raw?

I know some people are able to find fresh, raw chickpeas at farmers markets. I might try having one of my friends grow some next year. I've never seen them grown around here (Austin) to my knowledge...

i've read that eating raw chickpeas (not soaked or cooked) can be dangerous, leading to health issues, or at least major discomfort.
i know that like most legumes you can soak and sprout them and they are okay to eat from there. chickpeas have always tended to give me gastrointestinal issues so i've just had to avoid eating them in general.
i'd love to know if you ever get around to making hummus with raw chickpeas!
keep me posted!

I'll do some poking around and some more research and let you know what I find out. :)
